On this day, September 14, 1940, the Ip Massacre took place in the early hours in Ip, Sălaj - a village in Northern Transylvania. The Hungarian Army was supported by a local vigilante group, and together they killed 158 Romanian civilians. The massacred within the context of the Second Vienna Award. Immediately after the occupation of the Transylvanian territory, they started a series of massacres against the Romanian civilian populace. On September 8, 1940 the Second Army entered the city of Zalău.The area most affected by Horthyist terror was Sălaj, where 477 Romanians were massacred.
